Pylons
When I was about 11 my Aunt Nuala who lived in Leeds was taking me on
my first trip to England. This involved a train journey from Galway to
Dublin and then the Ferry to Liverpool and on by train again. I had never
been abroad before so I was curious to know what England was like. We
passed some pylons on the train and my Aunt said they had lots more pylons
in England and they were twice as big. In my head I applied this proportion
to everything except people. I was imagining giant buildings, giant cars,
giant doors and windows. It was just a matter of scale
to me then.
