Trestles and Tape

Trestles and tape are a great way to make a scene seem busy. They are a good devise for cordoning off and defining a little territory of development and activity. I know 2 artists ( Brian Connolly and Maurice O' Connell), that used this system of tape and cordons, whilst dressed as council workers in Dublin to involve the public in active debate about proposed developments in the Temple Bar area (you've been there, Arthouse is there). The props lent them an air of efficiency and authority, allowing them to move around the area and make various interventions. It was an effective way of channelling the publics' questions, comments and responses to the development and opening up debate about what development is.
